Dear Cross Fit Owners,
CROSS FIT HAS A HIGH INJURY RATE!
It is theorized that losing form with the high repetitions involved with Cross Fit is a major contributing cause of injuries associate with the sport.
Shoulder injuries appear to be the most common Cross Fit injuries due to the high amount of overhead motions involved with Cross Fit.
More than 90% of “average” people have rounded shoulders. Their shoulders are already in a compromised position, which makes lifting their arms over their heads (even without weight) very difficult.
If the shoulders lack sufficient mobility, compensations will develop. In the above case, usually the lower back must hyperextend to accomplish the movement.
Bad form will always lead to injury. Maybe not now, but eventually.
DISSATISFIED CLIENTS TALK
It has been theorized that a satisfied client will tell on average 3 people about their good experience, and a dissatisfied client will tell MORE THAN 10 PEOPLE about their bad experience.
Injury is a quick way to turn an interested client into a dissatisfied client.
YOU DON’T WANT TO LET THIS HAPPEN!
#1: Your average new client is not an athlete. They are office workers with no core strength, bad flexibility, and high stress levels.
#2: Crossfit is ideal for bodybuilders, power lifters, and gymnasts who are already strong and are looking to add conditioning to their strength program.
99% of your new clients will be like the #1 above, weak and injury-prone. There is about a 1% chance that the “ideal client” (#2) walks in your door. Most of the time you’ll be “putting out fires” as injuries continue to pile up for your “weekend warriors.”
You don’t want to waste your time chasing “past injuries” and “putting out fires.”
ONRAMP CLASSES ARE NOT ENOUGH
The Cross Fit Onramp classes teach proper technique, such as “how to do a clean and jerk.” But they do not actually open up the body to be able to do the range of motion that a clean and jerk requires. Most people are so structurally weak that it makes no sense to try to teach them how to do Olympic lifts (even with no weight on the bar!).
Think of it like you’re trying to build a 500 foot skyscraper, but the building’s foundation is only 5 feet deep. That’s not going to work.
The average Cross Fit beginner needs a bridge to go from desk worker to conditioned athlete. That bridge is Core Balance exercises that are customized to the individual and their movement compensations.
