First off, don't get intimidated by this big word, macronutrients. For fun, let's shorten it to "macros." A macro is simply a food that has caloric value. There are only 3 types of macros:
Understanding the codes:
Green light foods mean you can go ahead and eat them freely.
Yellow light foods mean that occasionally they may be alright, but just be careful. Don't overdo it.
Red Light foods should not even be called food at all. They are disgusting abominations, and your body has no use for them. Avoid them at all costs!
Protein is required for building new cells in the body.
Fat is required for optimal hormone function, and to be used as fuel.
Carbohydrates are required to be used for fuel for higher intensity bouts of exercise.
Every meal you eat should have a balanced combination of protein, fat, and carbohydrate.
